The brief history of Succeed magazine
Succeed Magazine was started (under the name of southern African SUCCESS Magazine) in 1993 by Wessel and Miriam Ebersohn, their daughter Tes and other members of their family. The first issue was published in May 1995.
Wessel is a novelist and journalist. He has written seven novels, which have been translated into 11 European languages and have been published on both sides of the Atlantic. Apart from his novels, his journalism has been published in leading South African publications and other international publications.
In late 1986, the Ebersohns decided to relocate to the Knysna Forest where, with the help of the rest of the family, Miriam started and ran a very successful bird and animal hospital and sanctuary.
It was during this period, while Wessel was writing articles for various publications, that Miriam started helping him with the research. While doing this, she found that most of the smaller businesses she interviewed would be bankrupt when she looked for them a year later. On looking into the reasons, they found that the vast majority of people who start businesses did not have the business knowledge they needed to Succeed. She realised that there was a tremendous need in the market for a business education and growth publication. This is where the idea for Succeed was born.
For the next three years, Miriam did research on what the contents of an entrepreneurship magazine should be, how viable it would be and all the things that go into publishing a successful magazine. They wanted to create a publication that would have something of interest for every single person who read it, something that would make a difference in people’s lives and help the country as a whole to Succeed.
Succeed was started with a vision to make a real difference. It was built on hope, determination, friendship, and with the support of a remarkable family.
